Pros and Cons of Wearing Acrylic Nails
When you are trying to decide if you want to enhance your nails
through the use of acrylic nails, you should be aware that there are
some definite good and bad points to any type of artificial nails you
may choose to use. Basically, acrylic nails are created from the mixing
of a chemical powder with a hardening chemical liquid. There are
currently 2 types of acrylic nails available, each having slightly
different properties. The first, and best, type is made with Ethyl
Methacrylate (EMA). While being the better of the two types, it is also
more costly. The second one available is made with Methyl Methacrylate (MMA).
This one is less expensive but also less durable.
To begin with, one of the definite pros of wearing acrylic nails is
that they are wonderful for people who don’t want their own nails
subjected to any damages of nail polish. They may also just want great
looking nails for longer periods of time, while also making sure that
the nails stay strong. This seems to be especially true for women who
hold secretarial or other jobs where they have a lot of typing to do,
and who need much stronger acrylic nails. Some women just may not have a
lot of time to put to maintaining their nails, but also want their nails
to look amazing for long periods of time. These are people that acrylic
nails were made for.

Another reason that people choose to get acrylic nails is because
their natural ones are too soft and always crack causing discomfort and
bleeding. Having acrylic nails will add strength to these weak nails
when used the right way. A word of caution regarding the removal of
acrylic nails from weaker natural nails is that a lot of people don’t
remove the acrylic nails properly. This can be very damaging to the
natural nail if you are not patient and let the removal chemicals do
their job before you try to remove the acrylic nail.
Even
though acrylic nails may be the answer to the prayers of some, there are
some definite cons that you should be aware of before making the
decision to get yourself a set of them. The first thing to understand
about acrylic nails is that they are an added piece of plastic above
your natural nail. For this reason, the nails are never going to appear
100 percent real simply due to the added height to the nail. However,
with proper manicuring and some grinding, this effect can be kept to a
minimum.
Something else to consider is that acrylic nails are quite a bit
stronger than natural nails. Because they are bonded to the natural
nail, if the acrylic nail is ever ripped from the bottom to the top,
your natural nail is very likely to follow suit. This makes for a very
painful experience. Consider as well that acrylic nails only add
strength to the forward and backward motions performed doing such tasks
as pushing buttons or typing. However, it should be noted that acrylic
nails are not going to chip or crack as quickly or easily as your
natural nails.
It should be taken into consideration that the bonding agent used to
glue the acrylic nails to the natural nail is actually very toxic and it
can, at times, damage the real nails. This fact is not widely known, but
the bonding agents for acrylic nails are actually worse on your nails
than normal nail polish. For this reason alone, you may decide that you
would rather forego having acrylic nails and just spend some extra time
on maintaining your nails in other ways.
However, if you have never had any problems with your nails when
using nail polish or even those department store artificial nails, you
may want to shop around for a really good reputable and skilled nail
technician. That is a vital part of the entire process. You definitely
want someone who knows what they are doing and your brand new nails have
an excellent chance of turning out perfectly. Acrylic nails hold nail
polish much better and longer than natural nails do so you will not have
to spend a lot of time redoing the polish job. Many people have their
acrylic nails done in special designs for holidays and can keep these
maintained throughout the entire holiday season.
Whatever you decide to do when it comes to getting acrylic nails, you
should be sure to ask any questions you may have before you commit to
getting them applied. This is the only way that you can be assured that
getting them is going to be the right thing for you. It’s better to know
ahead of time than to have them applied and then find out that you can’t
handle them. |
